Regional French in the French-speaking world: 2012-2025

Location: CY Advanced Studies's Auditorium in Neuville sur Oise.

International meeting coordinated by Marie-Madeleine Bertucci from the LT2D research center.

The French-speaking world is characterised by its linguistic and cultural diversity. A multiplicity of languages coexist with French. This coexistence, which has arisen from a variety of historical circumstances depending on the context, has given rise to the original multilingual and multicultural linguistic landscape of the 21st century Francophonie, where the issue of languages and identities in contact is central and encompasses both diatopic variation and social variation. The aim of this conference is to bring up to date, with the same researchers, a discussion begun in 2012 at the UCP on regional French, based on the hypothesis that in 2025, the issue of linguistic diversity has changed, in particular because perceptions of certain language practices have evolved, as a result of, in Europe, the predominance of a eurocentric universalist conception and ii more generally, because of the geostrategic challenges facing political leaders, such as energy security, access to essential resources, food insecurity, sustainable development and its various parameters. .. All these factors have an impact on the linguistic situation and the relationship that speakers have with French in the French-speaking world, as this conference will endeavour to show.
