‘How do Mountains form?’ and current project on the Karatau complex (Russia, Southern Urals) formation
Anvar Farkhutdinov, Director of Geology, Hydrometeorology and Geoecology Department of the Bashkir State University, is currently fellow-in-residence at CY AS, invited by laboratory GEC
In the first part I will talk about discovery of how mountains are formed, from the first hypotheses till modern theory of plate tectonics, and how history of this research is utterly different for the Soviet Union and the rest of the World. In the second part I will present our project on the Southern Urals territory (Karatau complex) formation, including application of experimental (‘sandbox’) modelling.
