New Challenges at the Urban Periphery
Venue: Saint Denis (93)
International conference coordinated by Marie-Madeleine Bertucci, CY LT2D laboratory.
The project includes the co-organization of a festival and a symposium by the members of Banlieue Network (2012-14) and the association Alternatives Européennes. We aim to explore literatures on the margins by bringing together academic knowledge and expertise emerging from various practices. We propose to experiment with an innovative format combining academic conference, artistic festival and co-creative workshops by adopting methods conceptualized by the Festival of Urban Peripheries (FLUP) organized in Brazil annually since 2012. This innovative format will allow us to include the perspective of artists to contribute to a better understanding of the processes of domination that weigh on art forms developed on the margins. Organized in Saint-Denis, our event will bring together artists, researchers, local stakeholders and the general public to involve them in a debate on the mechanisms of marginality and legitimation. We hope to explore the positive potential of margins as creative spaces and resources to produce radically new aesthetics and forms. The program will celebrate the different artistic and cultural forms born in marginality. It will include presentations by researchers, discussions and panel discussions with authors, performances by artists and creative workshops conducted before and during the event.
