Organic Semiconductors: Research and Applications
Demetrio da Silva Filho, professeur en physique et chef du département de structure des matériaux à l'Université de Brasilia, est actuellement fellow-in-residence à CY AS, invité du laboratoire LPPI
Organic semiconductors are known for more than a century but it was only in the past 30 years that intense research has been conducted to move it to practical applications. One of the promising applications, Organic Light-Emitting Diodes, is already a part of our daily lives. On the other hand, organic photovoltaics is still struggling to reach the performance necessary for commercialization.
In this talk, after providing a brief introduction to this novel class of materials and its potentials, I will discuss how I have been using Quantum Chemistry to do research geared toward the understanding of the mechanisms behind the operation of these devices in order to improve performance.
I will wrap-up presenting the topic that brought me to this program: Hybrid Perovskites. This will be the main focus of my research in the next months.
