This course introduces the fundamental principles of scientific writing while critically addressing the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in academic and research contexts. Emphasis is placed on clarity, structure, argumentation, authorship, and research integrity, as well as on defining what is acceptable and unacceptable when using AI-assisted writing tools.

In this course, I will discuss the fundamental aspects of scientific writing, including the structure of scientific articles and key elements such as clarity, precision, and concise- ness. The course will also address proper citation practices, reference management, and plagiarism. Two dedicated sections will focus on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) on scientific writing, with particular emphasis on the risks arising from their capabilities and limitations. These sections will further exam- ine acceptable uses of AI, problematic or unethical practices, and existing institutional and journal policies governing the use of AI in academic writing.
