Ce que l’école peut encore pour la démocratie – Autour de Philippe Meirieu

Location: Cergy-Pontoise

International meeting coordinated by Beatrice Mabilon-Bonfils from Bonheurs research center.

This study day, organized around the presence of Philippe Meirieu and his book What School Can Still Do for Democracy (Seuil, 2024), aims to examine the role and responsibility of the educational system in today’s fragile democratic context. At a time when schools are expected to foster enlightened citizens endowed with critical thinking, discernment, and cooperative skills, Philippe Meirieu’s work provides a crucial framework to reflect on how education can resist commodification and social fragmentation.
Beyond academic presentations and a dialogue with the author, the event will feature a series of research-performances: hybrid devices combining artistic creation, dramatization of educational situations, and scientific analysis. These innovative forms will enable researchers, practitioners, students, and citizens to collectively think about—and experience—the democratic issues at stake in education.
