15th Wood Science GDR meeting

Wood sciences bring together a diverse community in terms of disciplines, topics, and institutional contexts. The GDR3544 “Wood Sciences” aims to unite this community around major scientific issues, pool educational resources, and strengthen relations with industry and international research. Each year, the GDR's scientific meeting brings together around 200 French researchers, research faculty, and doctoral students, as well as about 20 international participants. Organized over a period of three days, it provides an opportunity to share recent advances, explore multidisciplinary topics (engineering, chemistry, biology, social sciences and humanities), and collectively imagine the research of tomorrow to better understand the past or respond to the current challenges of wood sciences (industry, society, environment). The program includes guest lectures, flash talks, posters, workshops, working group meetings, and regional visits.

In 2026, the 15th GDR Bois meeting will focus on the link between Wood sciences and Heritage sciences: History and Archaeology of Techniques (architecture, furniture, material culture, stringed instrument making), characterization (physical, chemical) of wooden objects and scientific imaging in conservation-restoration, collaborations between researchers, manufacturers, and cultural institutions. Discussions will also focus on issues related to current transitions, the preservation of expertise, and the development of training programs.
